HART Paramedics - Great Western Ambulance Service
CLOSING DATE: 12 noon Wednesday 18th August 2010
The Ambulance Service has a duty to provide high standards of
clinical care to members of the public and to other emergency responders
involved in complex incidents. Where an emergency presents certain hazards to
responders, traditional practice has been for casualties to be removed by our
colleagues in services such as the Fire and Rescue Service, Coastguard or
Military, and brought to a safe area where ambulance staff can then perform
their role.
The HART programme introduces specialist training in incident response and
urban search and rescue techniques to the ambulance service, formally creating
this comprehensive new capability and increasing survival rates. In addition to
the response training, HART Paramedics become proficient in the use of a wide range
of specialist protective clothing and incident management equipment. A
continuing commitment to spending one week in seven training, ensures that
every member of the team maintains high skill standards and safe operating
practices.
As a HART Paramedic you will respond to potentially protracted incidents of a
Chemical, Biological, Radiation and Nuclear (CBRN) and Hazardous Material
(HAZMAT) nature as well as emergencies involving; structural collapse, confined
space rescue, major transportation incidents, incidents requiring working at
height and rescue incidents involving complex entrapment.
In addition to providing specialist HART responses, operatives will also
support the daily operational response of the service by responding to a wide
range of medical emergencies.
Great Western Ambulance Service is committed to delivering the highest quality
service to the population of Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, North Somerset and
Bristol City. The Trust serves a population of over two million people, covering
a mixture of both lively urban areas along with some of the most beautiful
rural villages and towns in the country. This new capability will increase our
frontline emergency capability allowing us to deliver an enhanced response to
the most complex and challenging of incidents.
If you are currently a State Registered Paramedic and able to demonstrate
operational experience we are very keen to hear from you. Applications will be
welcomed from external as well as internal candidates. Before applying you should
consider whether or not HART is a role for you by reviewing the information
contained within our applicants pack or by clicking here.
There are several elements to the selection process which include:
• Completing a Self Assessment Questionnaire
• A competency based interview.
• An occupational health assessment.
• A physical competence assessment
To apply you must have a good level of physical fitness. Current sickness and
disciplinary records will be taken into account. You will also be required to
maintain minimum fitness levels as agreed by the Trust.
The Great Western Ambulance Service HART team will operate out of a purpose built base in North Bristol. GWAS HART will go operationally live from August 31 2010 located at a temporary base at Falfield Ambulance Station. A period of extensive training will be undertaken by any successful candidates involving residential training courses in November and December 2010.
