North East HART team start PPE training

12.08.2009

Operative in CR1 suit

The North East Ambulance Service HART team has now started its specialist training in Personal Protective Equipment (known as PPE) and has completed its training in CR1 (Civil Responder) suits.

CR1 suits are necessary to protect emergency services staff against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) threats – such as gas attacks or hazardous chemical spills.

The NEAS HART team – due to go live early next year – undertook the CR1 training at Police HQ in Ponteland, Northumberland. Training in Extended Duration Breath Apparatus (EDBA) is underway at Mersey Fire and Rescue Service, with Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) training next on the list.

Kerri James, PR and Communications Assistant at NEAS, is following the progress of the NEAS HART team as they complete each stage of their training.
