EMAS HART TEAM IN FLOODLIGHT ‘RESCUE’ AT NOTTS FOREST
20.07.2009
The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) HART team were involved in a dramatic training exercise on 15 July 2009 when they had to ‘rescue’ a casualty who was trapped at the top of a floodlight at Nottingham Forest's football stadium.
The mock rescue was a joint training exercise with Notts Fire and Rescue Service's Specialist Rescue Team (SRT). Members of the SRT and HART climbed to the top of the floodlight together to assist a 'casualty' who was unable to climb down.
Notts Fire and Rescue Service Station Manager Richard Hodgson, who heads the SRT, said: “It is great for the fire and rescue service to be assisting paramedics with their training and also gives us chance to practise our skills.”
EMAS Emergency Planning Lead Simon Harris said: “This exercise has demonstrated that paramedics can now work even closer with colleagues in the Fire and Rescue Service when assessing and treating casualties in hazardous and unstable environments.
“We have established good working relationships with our local FRS and have regular training sessions scheduled with them over the coming months. It all aids effective operations when we turn up at actual incidents.”
