HART PLAYS VITAL ROLE AT WEST MIDLANDS FLAT FIRE
29.11.2009
A woman has been led to safety from a flat fire by West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service, supported by West Midlands Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
HART, which consists of a team of specially trained paramedics with additional skills to deal with patients in hard to reach situations, was among the resources called to a tower block in Duddeston Manor Road, Birmingham, shortly after 3.20pm today.
A rapid response vehicle, incident support officer, 4x4 ambulance and two ambulance crews also attended.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “The bedroom of a flat was gutted by fire. The occupants of that flat, a mother and her two children, had managed to get out. The mother had breathed in smoke, but refused hospital treatment.
“A woman in a neighbouring flat was led to safety by the Hazardous Area Response Team. She too had inhaled smoke and was taken to City Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
